Pomme
de Terre Lake, located in the Osage Lakes Region, is a beautiful, clear
lake with 113 miles of shoreline and over 7,800 surface acres of water.
Named the "Gem of the Ozarks", it is well known for its bass
and muskie fishing and is ideal for camping, canoeing, hiking and water
sports. Rural and peaceful in atmosphere with friendly people, it makes
a great place to raise your family or plan your retirement. Located
just 50 miles from the Springfield, MO metropolitan area and 45 minutes
from Lake of the Ozarks, Truman and Stockton Lakes, you can have the
best of both worlds at Pomme de Terre Lake.
Wheatland - A few miles
west of Pomme de Terre Lake.
At one time, Wheatland was a thriving town and her well water was known
to be the purest in the country. Today, the citizens of Wheatland are
working diligently to bring their century old town to life again. Volunteers
from the area have reassembled 13 authentic log buildings to create
a Pioneer Village. Pioneer Village stands as a representative to the
past. A replica relay station of the Butterfield Overland Mail is part
of the village. Plan now to attend the Wheatland Harvest Festival, an
annual celebration of community spirit. Or visit Pioneer Village during
the Annual Christmas Lighting ceremony.
Things To Do
Fishing: almost all year round! Fish from the shore, bring your boat,
or rent a fishing boat while you're here. Fresh bait and tackle is available
anytime, as are local fishing maps. Or better yet, hire a guide to show
you the way!
Boating on the Lake
Enjoy the thrill of personal watercraft, tubes and the infamous ski
bob on the beautiful waters of spacious Pomme de Terre lake. Water skiers
enjoy the smooth lake surface, without the crowds you see at most of
the larger lakes. Or just take a leisurely cruise to view the natural
beauty of the shoreline. You're sure to enjoy.
Hunting the Pomme de Terre
Area Woodlands
There are many lake area accommodations to choose
from for each hunting season. White-tail deer, turkey, rabbit, and wildfowl
abound in this region. Hunting supplies and information are available
at area stores.
Photography
and Hiking
You can observe the wildlife that abounds in the Pomme
de Terre area by walking the shoreline property surrounding the lake,
or on country roads, or by hiking one of the trails. Maps are available
at the Office of the Corps of Engineers. Come see why they call it "naturally
peaceful" at Pomme de Terre Lake.
Canoeing The Spring Waters
of the Pomme de Terre River
The only river in Missouri that flows
north, emptying into Lake Pomme de Terre!
Golf at The Pomme de Terre
Golf & Country Club
You can enjoy your game at the Pomme de
Terre Golf & Country Club located in the Wheatland area. With bent
grass greens and dog leg fairways, you'll have a great time while trying
to improve your game. It is open all year and is accessible from either
HWY 254 or HWY 83. Men's Golf Day is every Monday; Women's Gold Day
is every Thursday.
Antiquing or Shopping
Can be found in most all of the towns surrounding the lake, and it only
takes five to ten minutes to travel from town to town in Hickory County.
Many Missouri towns close off the town square once a year for a day
of celebration and fun. Many enterprising citizens bring their hand
made fine crafts or antique collections to display and sell.
